About Becky

My name is Becky Baker, and I am a former Intensive Care Unit nurse who now teaches high school students with aspirations of becoming healthcare professionals. I love sharing my passion for healthcare by inspiring and equipping these future professionals to make a positive impact on the lives of others. I combine my nursing background and personal journey to help students cultivate and embody empathy, compassion, and a strong sense of commitment in healthcare.

My scoliosis journey has shaped much of my life and mission. Just shy of my 14th birthday, I had my first spinal fusion surgery on January 7, 1987, fusing T2 to L1. For nearly four decades, I sought out a wide range of surgical alternatives to manage my condition. However, as the pain and reduced quality of life persisted, I underwent a second fusion on January 10, 2024, from T10 to my pelvis. With the two surgeries combined, my fusion now extends from T2 to my pelvis. This deeply personal experience fuels my mission to support and empower other adults with scoliosis.

When I’m not teaching or working on advocacy projects, I treasure spending time with my family, including my wonderful husband Jay, two adult children Madeline and Jack, two adult bonus children Devon and Nathan, two cats Ringo and Ziggy, and two lively pugs Dexter and Suki. I find joy in reading, knitting, crocheting, enjoying the company of friends, playing in a band with my husband, and exploring the beauty of nature. Known for my warmth, compassion, and drive to help others, I am committed to building a supportive community for those on their own scoliosis journeys.
